Learning Objectives

The Course intends to make students familiar with t he basic concepts of law though a comprehensive introduction to the Italian legal sys tem, the European one and the global environment.

1. Issues of method in legal research-Legal systems and the comparative method

2. Legal orders’ relationships: the European Union legal system and the global arena

3. Legal systems: the common law and the civil law traditions; the sources of law and the role of the Judiciary

4. Constitutional architecture and institutional design

5.. Processes: rule making; adjudication

6.. Fundamental rights and freedoms

8. Private law: especially contract, tort and family law.

Learning targets

Learning outcomes are assessed through class participation (20% weight), a written essay (80% weight)
