Learning Objectives

Over the last few years thanks the new technologies and the industry 4.0 the data volume in manufacturing has exploded. Big Data and the Internet of Things are the predominant keywords. Machines can collect real time data on every aspect of the products, process and environment.

Today this data are used to trace products and answer the customers complains. But the real question is “How can I gain competitive advantages by using these data?”.

The course focuses on manufacturing system, especially on how to collect data from the shop floor and how to storage them. The program provides also knowledge on advance analytics and statistical test in order to identify patterns or relationships among a whole range of datasets.

The aims is to use the data in order to help the operations manager to make the right decision at the right time.

Course Delivery

Lessons will take place in the classroom, where the bases of the statistical software R will be explained. After that different case studies, will be present in order to gain more experience on big data and the analysis. Practical lecture will take place in I-FAB, a simulator of real factory, in order to understand the possible advantages.
