Learning Objectives

At the end of the course the student will be able: 

  1. to have specifical knowledge about the economic analysis of law methodology;
  2. to undestand the main contributions in the field;
  3. to be aware about the importance of the interdisciplinary approach to the study of law.

Learning targets

The learning targets of the course are the following: 

  1. to show to the students the economic analysis of law methodology;
  2. to make the students able to understand the main contributions in the field;
  3. to outline the importance of the interdisciplinary approach to the study of law.

Course Content

The objective of the course is to examine the economic analysis of law methodology.

Two dimensions will be explored: first of all, how an interdisciplinary approach can be usefull for the comprehension of some legal isssues; secondly, how the economic theory affects legislative procedure.
Particularly the focus will be on some particularly topics: economic analysis of the processes through which political decisions regarding regulation are taken, principally in Italy, in Europe and in the United States; the theory of accidents and civil liability and the role of insurance in facing the consequences of accidents; a specific focus about environmental cases.

Course Delivery

The lectures are held throughout the entire semester with the use of slides that will be posted on the course website on “myliuc”.

Students are also requested to read some original articles that apply the economic analysis of law methodology

 

Course Evaluation

The evaluation will be done during an oral examination that will investigate the knowledge of the students.
