Learning Objectives

Ability to model the behavior of a productive logistics system and simulate its behavior through one of the most used software for discrete event simulation (Arena). The student will be able to define a suitable experiment plan to make decisions based on the results of the simulation.

Simulation is one of the technological pillars on which the Industry 4.0 paradigm is based and the discrete event simulation, typically used for the modeling and prediction of the behavior of the logistic and production systems, integrated with the IoT, can now create a real digital twin of the factory.

Learning targets

The student will have gained knowledge of the tools for modeling and simulating logistic and production systems. Will be able to realize the logical model and the simulation model in the Arena. Finally, it will be able to carry out a campaign of experiments to arrive at predicting the behavior of the system under certain conditions.

Course Content

Logical modeling

Petri nets

Design of Experiments

Arena basic elements

Arena advanced elements

Simulation of transport resources

Data collection with Arena

Running simulation runs

Course Delivery

Topics covered include "traditional" classroom sessions.

At the end of the traditional lessons, lectures dedicated to the project work are planned.

Course Evaluation

The learning of concepts is verified through the presentation of a project work, which will be assigned during the course.
