The course is divided into two modules.
The first module will illustrate the main subjects of trade union law, with particular reference to the protagonists of industrial relations and their actions, taking account of the overall historical development of forms of representation of collective interests and the probable development of the industrial relations system towards new forms of collective bargaining.
The second module will examine the fundamental institutions of labour law that regulate employment from hiring to termination. The labour law aspects of compulsory and private pension schemes will also be examined. Issues relating to “contractors” will also be discussed, with special reference to the new contractual forms recently introduced. The course will also focus on the mechanisms of regulation of the labour market, the Job Centre system, employment services, active employment policies and the most important phenomena with a collective dimension, such as management of the welfare safety net and redundancy.

2.6 The main cases of authorised suspension of the contract of employment.
2.7 Duties, grading, working hours and remuneration.
2.8 Termination of the contract of employment.
2.9 Labour law aspects of compulsory and private pension schemes.
2.10 The labour market and its regulation.
2.11 Job Centre, employment services and active employment policies.
2.12 Passive employment policies: redundancy schemes and solidarity agreements.
Supplementary work
Students intending to switch from the “3+2” to the five-year degree course will be required to take a supplementary oral exam due to the larger number of credits allocated to the five-year degree course. The exam will focus on Labour and competitivity of businesses. Students can obtain details of the subjects covered in the exam by consulting the 2007-2008 syllabus of the course on the part of the University’s website devoted to teaching aspects.

Students who attend lectures regularly need only study the specific chapters of the above books indicated by the lecturers during lectures.
